Additional CHEMPAC Support Needed

It’s been a tough road, but Illinois’ chemical industry has survived countless challenges at the hands of elected officials – including proposed bans on our products, onerous taxes and burdensome workplace regulations. We have been successful in defeating many anti-business bills because the chemical industry has an engaged membership united through the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois and its experienced lobbying team. Through CICI we have made the best use of CHEMPAC dollars to help elect individuals who understand the importance of our industry to the state’s economy.

However, without a change in the balance of the state’s political makeup, it is very possible the industry will face serious legislative challenges that could win approval – and negatively impact our industry. In the 2022 elections, CICI and CHEMPAC must seize all real opportunities to support and elect like-minded candidates.

Legislative maps have been redrawn, and every seat in the General Assembly and statewide office is up for election in 2022. Many of these contests will determine the partisan composition of the state legislature for the next decade. There will also be mid-term Congressional elections under the new presidential administration.  Never in my years with CICI have I seen a more significant election that could have long-lasting negative consequences. We must be assertive in electing candidates who understand the chemistry industry and its sweeping impact on Illinois’ entire economy.

Today, we need a PAC that is well funded if we hope to compete with our adversaries.  Simply put - CICI needs to step up its game in retaining lawmakers and electing candidates who understand the crucial role we play in the manufacturing arena. This is a time we need to grow the PAC exponentially. CHEMPAC welcomes your additional contributions as we head into the most divisive election in memory.
