CHEMPAC Support Needed

Even during a global pandemic where our industry’s products - masks and other PPEs, medical equipment, disinfectants, and hand sanitizers – became vital in battling this outbreak, the current administration and numerous lawmakers are pushing legislation that, as a whole, will be devastating to the very industry that has served so devotedly during this crisis.

At this time, here are where the more onerous legislative initiatives stand:

  • The state’s plaintiffs’ bar already has a bill on Pritzker’s desk that will enact a 6% pre-judgement interest on awards.
  • Organized labor has legislation on the House Floor that will mandate union hiring and paying of prevailing wages at several CICI facilities. Example: Prevailing Wage in Will County
  • Clean energy advocates and organized labor have several measures on the Floor to enact billions of dollars in increased energy costs, eroding away our competitive advantage in the state.
  • Environmental advocates also have legislation on the Floor to enact onerous Environmental Justice provisions which will make permitting cumbersome and protracted.
  • The state’s budget is taking aim at crucial tax incentives the industry relies upon to remain viable.

In the past, when the General Assembly had a better composition of its members, most of these harmful legislative measures wouldn’t have survived.  However, without any foreseen changes in the balance of state’s political make-up, these types of challenges will remain for the industry, become more commonplace, and have a greater chance of succeeding.

Simply put - CICI needs to step up its game in retaining lawmakers and electing candidates that view our industry as a real benefit to the state’s economy.  As such, we need to grow the PAC exponentially.  CICI is asking for your support of CHEMPAC, the only political action committee that solely represents the state’s chemical industry.

Please join CICI’s efforts to promote and defend the interests of the chemical industry in Illinois by contributing to CHEMPAC.
