McCormick Place to be Turned into Temporary Hospital.  Illinois National Guard and the US Army Corps of Engineers are preparing to turn the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago into a temporary hospital. The goal would be to manage positive cases and contain the COVID-19 virus, but be dedicated to non-acute COVID-19 patients which are not likely to be admitted to an Intensive Care Unit. The aim is to have 500 beds in this facility by the end of the week and then another 500 the week after that, with the overall goal to have 3,000 beds by the end of April.
