In total, 30,446 people have been tested for the virus, an increase of 2,984 new tests since yesterday.
You can see where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak. In addition, Western Illinois University has an put together this Map of COVID-19 Cases in Illinois & Surrounding States to give you a better picture of where COVID-19 cases are at in relation to areas surrounding Illinois.
Chemical Transportation Safety Guidance: The National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) has collaborated with the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to further the safety and security of the chemical shippers, carriers, and the general public. NTTC supports sharing the following example guidance from ACC to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 viruses. This information is shared solely for informational purposes, recognizing that the current COVID-19 status, as well as individual company circumstances, will determine to what extent this approach may be appropriate.
McCormick Place to be Turned into Temporary Hospital. Illinois National Guard and the US Army Corps of Engineers are preparing to turn the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago into a temporary hospital. The goal would be to manage positive cases and contain the COVID-19 virus, but be dedicated to non-acute COVID-19 patients which are not likely to be admitted to an Intensive Care Unit. The aim is to have 500 beds in this facility by the end of the week and then another 500 the week after that, with the overall goal to have 3,000 beds by the end of April. CICI has been assisting secure equipment needed to turn McCormick Place into a temporary hospital.
In addition, two additional alternate care facilities, the former Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, and the Metro South Health Center in Blue Island are undergoing similar efforts to be reopened.
