Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – Governor Pritzker to Issue New Executive Order for Phase 3 Re-Opening; Press Briefings to be Conducted on an As-Needed Basis; Update on COVID-19 Cases

Governor Pritzker to Issue New Executive Order for Phase 3 Re-Opening: During this afternoon’s press briefing,Governor Pritzker announced at that he will sign a new Executive Order tonight for the state’s Phase 3 re-opening plan, which began today. While CICI has not seen the official order, the governor did mention that it will effectively end the current “Stay at Home” order but will continue with several of its aspects such as limiting gatherings to 10 or fewer people, face coverings and social distancing requirements as well extending the ban on residential evictions, utility shutoffs and in-person licensing and training requirements to ensure that workers can keep their professional credentials active.  Essential businesses and their employees should not be affected by this new order. CICI will send out the official order once it become available.

Press Briefings to be Conducted on an As-Needed Basis: Governor Pritzker also announced today that his office will only be conducting COVID-19 press conferences on an as-needed basis.  Medical reports will still be issued and available on the state’s COVID-19 website.  As such, CICI will only be issuing this Update when these press briefing occur or when pertinent information from other sources like the CDC, CISA, OSHA, USEPA, IEPA, etc. becomes available.

Update on COVID-19 Cases: This afternoon, IDPH is reporting a total of 5,270 deaths, an increase of 86 since yesterday. There are currently 117,455 positive cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, an increase of 1,622 from yesterday. In total, 855,479 people have now been tested in Illinois for the virus, an increase of 25,513 since yesterday.

The statewide positivity rate for the last 24 hours is at 6.3% and our statewide 7-day rolling positivity rate is at 8%.  Again, IDPH’s webpage tracks positivity and hospitalization rates for the state’s four regions.

You can check where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak. Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities.  The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state. In addition, Western Illinois University has an put together this Map of COVID-19 Cases in Illinois & Surrounding States which gives you picture of where COVID-19 cases are occurring in relation to areas surrounding Illinois.

Worldometer also has a site with pertinent statistics on a state by state breakdown and comparison. Also, the City of Chicago has a good categorization of the cases within the city.
