Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – One Death from 160 Confirmed Cases in Illinois, No Further Restrictions from Governor, DHS/FEMA Conference Calls on Supply Chain

As of 5 pm this afternoon, the Illinois Dept. of Public Health is now reporting one death of a Chicago area woman out of over 160 now-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, an increase of over 55 from this morning.  You can see where these cases are at through the Illinois Depart. of Public Health’s COVID 19 Illinois Map.

As you know, yesterday afternoon, Governor Pritzker issued a proclamation banning, beginning March 18, 2020, public and private gatherings in the state of Illinois of 50 people or more for the duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation.  THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE MANUFACTURING FACILITIES OR SUPPLY CHAIN DISTRIBUTION.  It also does not include venues such as grocery stores, hospitals, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, credit unions, shelters, etc.

At Governor Pritzker’s daily press briefing today, he stated that, at this time, he does not see the need to further amend this Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation to limit the number of people in this initiative but will continue to evaluate on a day-by-day basis.

To that end, CICI has been compiling a list of products and processes from our members which are vital to combat the spread of this outbreak, This memo will be shared with the Pritzker Administration and public health officials later today.

Also attached to this e-mail is a related letter sent by the American Chemistry Council to the White House and all 50 governors.  It is crucial that the decision makers in this state and country understand the important role which the chemical industry has in providing the necessary products which will be key in reducing the spread of this virus.
