Re:

Additional CHEMPAC Support Needed

Amid the heartbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year also brings us the most contentious election in anyone’s memory. All 2020 races, from the Presidential to the Congressional and state legislative matches, are crucial to our economy and industry’s well-being for decades to come. Further, winners of the contested races will obtain great power: they will draw the new district boundary maps for the future Congressional and state elections. Potentially, these new maps will be constructed to ensure progressives remain in power until at least 2032. This November election also presents Illinois voters with a Constitutional Amendment to enact a graduated income tax. If approved, our state will be burdened with the second highest corporate tax rate in the country.

The state’s legislature has a surprising number of elected officials who believe anything progressive activists say, even if there are no scientific facts to back up their claims. Misinformation and hysteria have led to the shutdown of large employers and forced layoffs of these legislators’ own constituents, if only to score political points.

In the past, this “shutdown” mentality has been focused on flame retardants, BPA, phthalates, pesticides, ethylene oxide, and coal tar sealer. Future targets include benzene, formaldehyde, silicas, fertilizers, and  titanium dioxide. At the same time, we will battle tax increases, labor mandates, energy cost increases, and trial lawyer initiatives in the years to come.  Without any foreseen changes in the balance of state’s political make-up, great challenges will remain for the industry. CICI fully expects attacks to continue into 2021 and beyond.

CICI must work quickly and diligently to retain lawmakers and elect candidates who view our industry as a real benefit to the state’s economy. To this end, we need to grow our PAC exponentially. Please consider giving additional support to CHEMPAC now, the only political action committee which solely represents the state’s chemical industry.

Please join CICI’s efforts to promote and defend the interests of the chemical industry in Illinois by contributing to CHEMPAC. If interested, please complete the attached CHEMPAC contribution form, and send to CICI’s Des Plaines office, email to [email protected] or contribute online HERE.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Note:   Corporate contributions to CHEMPAC are legal in Illinois.
