ICEF Virtual Fundraiser 2020 - DONATE TODAY
Thursday, December 31, 2020
Category: ICEF Events

Normally at the end of May, the Illinois Chemical Education Foundation (ICEF) hosts the annual Scholarship Luncheon to recognize outstanding high school and undergraduate students pursuing further education in chemistry. This Luncheon is the primary fundraiser for the ICEF: the money raised at the luncheon directly funds the following years’ scholarships as well as many other chemical outreach events for students and teachers in Illinois.

Sadly, the current COVID-19 situation has led to the cancellation of the 2020 Scholarship Luncheon. The ICEF Scholarship Committee has had to make the difficult decision to reduce by half the number of scholarships awarded to students this year given the financial uncertainty of the ICEF in the absence of its primary fundraising event. With the continued support of our named scholarships from CICI member companies and private donations, ICEF was still able to award nine scholarships this year. Brief biographies of the scholarship winners are provided below.

The ICEF has decided to host a virtual fundraiser to attempt to secure a portion of the funding which would have been realized at the Scholarship Luncheon. We humbly ask you to contribute to the ICEF, or, if you were already planning to contribute, we greatly appreciate your support. As a reminder, the ICEF is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization so any donation made is tax-deductible. If you are interested in making a contribution, you may click to DONATE ONLINE via credit card. Other options available are to email at [email protected] or fax (847-544-5995) the completed FORM to be invoiced or send a check payable to the Illinois Chemical Education Foundation:

The mission of ICEF is to promote better academic understanding of the chemical industry and promote enthusiasm in young people for the chemical sciences. ICEF is run by volunteers who dedicate hundreds of hours each year to programs such as the annual Career Conference, Teacher Workshops, 5th Grade Girls in Science, and the “You Be the Chemist Challenge.” The ICEF also awards annually the Davidson Award for an outstanding high school chemistry teacher in Illinois in addition to its high school and undergraduate scholarships.

Although we are not sure how the rest of 2020 will play out with closures and social distancing, the ICEF is working hard on creative ways to continue to host our regular events in safe and appropriate manners.

Thank you for your support.
