Last year, the Illinois General Assembly seated the largest number of progressive lawmakers in the state’s history. Not surprisingly, these new politicians aggressively pushed legislation aimed at stifling the state’s business community, with particular focus on YOU, the chemical industry.

Fortunately, CICI’s lobbying initiatives had remarkable success beating back numerous attempts to ban chemical products, impose expensive new energy mandates, slap on workplace hiring restrictions, and pile on several tax and fee hikes.

However, the battle rages on. Given the political climate in Illinois, it is highly likely we will be hit with an onslaught of oppressive legislative proposals after this November’s elections. It is entirely possible that an even greater number of progressive lawmakers will be seated in January 2027.

And these same progressives are allied with our usual opponents, the environmentalists and trial lawyers, who will coalesce to press their troublesome legislative agendas. Please do not underestimate the difficult battle we face next year and beyond. It is essential we do everything possible to elect and retain moderate legislators who understand and support our industry as a vital part of the state’s economy.

With tremendous effort, CICI has been successful in stopping devastating legislation which would harm our member companies. But now, more than ever, we need YOU to support our experienced lobbying team and donate to CHEMPAC to make our collective voices heard.

Our challenge is simple but urgent: CICI must step up its game in retaining moderate common-sense lawmakers and electing candidates who view our industry as a real benefit to the state’s economy.
