CAREER CONFERENCE

Sponsored by the
Chemical Industry Council of Illinois &
the Illinois Chemical Education Foundation
The 33nd Annual Chemistry Career Conference for High School and Junior High School Science Students

Thursday, April 19, 2007
Friday April 20, 2007

Museum of Science and Industry
57th and Lake Shore Drive
Chicago, IL 60637

Each year it becomes increasingly difficult for educators to obtain the many needed resources that afford students the opportunity to gain hands-on, real life experiences in the exciting and rewarding world of chemistry. All too often, discovering the magic of chemistry is confined to textbooks and chalkboards.

Thirty-two years ago the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois and high school teachers bridged the gap between industry and education by developing an innovative Industry/Education Partnership Program. The Career Conference is designed to give students a new perspective on everyday life through chemical demonstrations, skits, and interviews with industry representatives from a wide range of careers and backgrounds. Please help us foster an interest in chemistry among your students that will lead them to become tomorrow’s scientists.

The Career Conference will be open for two days to allow for greater student participation; however, enrollment is still limited, so please register as soon as possible before April 13, 2007. Enrollment into the Conference will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Schools that register late will be added to the Conference waiting list and enrolled as scheduling permits.

The Chemical Industry Council of Illinois and the Illinois Chemical Education Foundation are dedicated to helping educators influence students towards careers in science.

We look forward to seeing you and your students at this educational and entertaining event.

What is the CICI and ICEF?

The Chemical Industry Council of Illinois (CICI) is a non-profit trade association seeking to promote better public understanding of the chemical industry. The CICI administers the Illinois Chemical Education Foundation (ICEF), a 501(c)(3) foundation that focuses on educational outreach from the chemical industry to the general public. ICEF Education Committee members contribute hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars each year to programs like the Career Conference that are designed to complement high school and junior high school chemistry curricula in an effort to generate interest and enthusiasm among students pursuing careers in technical fields. Other education programs include:

Teachers’ Enrichment Seminar

This annual, half-day workshop for high school and junior high school educators offers practical information on industrial chemistry and updated experiments for classroom use. ICEF/CICI seminar offers continuing education hours.

Scholarships and Awards

Thousands of dollars are awarded each year to outstanding high school and undergraduate chemistry students. Savings bonds are also awarded to the top chemistry entrants at the Illinois State Science Fair.

Career Panels

CICI members regularly visit schools, upon request, to discuss a variety of related topics ranging from their specific field of expertise to their academic experience.

CMA Teacher Education Resource Guide

This guide lists the various resources available to teachers through the chemical industry.
